Pegasus Airlines is a low-cost airline, but it offers connecting flights.
These connecting flights are airline protected, just like the ones offered by full-service traditional airlines. On flights like these, passengers are protected in case of flight delay, cancellation or denied boarding. If you miss your connection because of that, the airline will provide you with a new flight ticket.
Airline-protected connecting flights are better than self transfers.
Airline-protected connecting flights are:
- Safer. Your airline takes care of flight problems.
- More convenient. Baggage transfer is automatic.
- Easier to book. You book several flights as a single journey.

1.1 Connecting Flights, One Airline
In most situations, your connecting flight will be operated by Pegasus only.
You will have two or more flights and all of them will be operated by Pegasus. These will be Pegasus airplanes and Pegasus staff. Some flights, however, could be operated by Pegasus partners.
1.2 Pegasus Airlines Codeshare Partners
Sometimes airlines share their flights.
It is done to widen the flight network. You may have a connecting flight booked from one airline, but a part of it could be operated by another airline (partner airline). Connecting flights with different airlines is a common practice in aviation industry. These kind of flights are called codeshare flights, and airlines collaborating — codeshare partners.
Pegasus Airlines has a few partners, too. But it most cases, Pegasus connecting flights will be operated by Pegasus.

2. What If Pegasus Airlines Cancels a Flight?

Staff shortage, technical problems, airport congestion, bad weather, security issues and strikes. These are just some of the most popular reasons why airlines cancel their flights.
2.1 One of Your Flights Is Cancelled
Pegasus Airlines is a Turkish airline.
Despite this fact, on some of its flights you are still protected under the European law. According to the EU Regulation 261/2004, they must:
- Offer you a choice between a new flight and full refund.
- Offer you assistance at the airport (you have a right to care).
This applies to all their flights departing from Europe.
And if as a result you’re going to miss your connecting flight, it’s Pegasus Airlines’s responsibility to offer you an alternate flight for free to your final destination. You may also opt for a full refund instead. The latter applies only to Pegasus Airlines flights departing from Europe.

2.2 All Your Flights Are Cancelled
Overall, for you as a passenger, the options are the same.
According to the EU Regulation 261/2004, Pegasus Airlines must:
- Offer you a choice between a new flight and full refund.
- Offer you assistance at the airport if it’s a last-minute cancellation and you are already at the airport (you have a right to care).
This applies to all their flights departing from Europe.
Refund must be paid within seven days.
You may have a right to EU flight cancellation compensation.
2.3 Pegasus Airlines Refund for Cancellation
Yes, you have a right to ask for a refund.
If your Pegasus Airlines flight departs from Europe, and it has been cancelled, you can opt for a refund instead. If the alternate flight doesn’t fit your travel plans, or you don’t want to travel anymore, request a refund.
The refund has to be paid by bank transfer, within seven days.
3. Pegasus Airlines Missed Connecting Flight
Why do people miss connecting flights?
You could miss your connecting flight because your previous flight was delayed or cancelled. You could miss a flight because of airport congestion and long queues. Or, it could be a simple mistake, like confusing am with pm or waiting at the wrong gate.
3.1 What Happens If You Miss Pegasus Airlines Connection?
If it’s your fault that it happened — it’s your responsibility.
If it’s not your fault, then your airline has to take care of that. If you booked a flight from Pegasus Airlines, it doesn’t even matter if the flight is operated by Pegasus Airlines or not, you should contact Pegasus Airlines. It’s their responsibility to find a solution.
According to the EU Regulation 261/2004, they must:
- Take you to your final destination as soon as possible.

3.3 Right to Care from Pegasus Airlines
On Pegasus Airlines flights departing from Europe you have a right to care.
According to the EU Regulation 261/2004 airline should provide:
- Free food and drinks in a reasonable relation to the waiting time.
- Free hotel accommodation if a stay of one or more nights is necessary.
- Free airport transfer to hotel and back.
- Plus, two telephone calls, telex or fax messages, or e-mails. So you can notify about the changes in your travel plans.
With Pegasus Airlines the regulation applies only to flights departing from European airports. With European airlines, like KLM, LOT Polish Airlines, Wizz Air and British Airways, it applies to all their flights.
When it comes to air passenger rights, unless otherwise stated, we talk about air passenger rights in the EU, EEA and UK. When we say Europe or European, we mean EU, EEA or UK. This is done for the simplicity, since the according laws in these countries are about the same.
4. How to Book Connecting Flights with Pegasus Airlines?
You can book flights directly from Pegasus Airlines or via a third-party.
The best way is to book flights directly from the airline. It’s safer, but it’s not always cheaper. Alternatively, you can use kiwi.com, edreams.com or other third party flight booking websites to book connecting flights.
How to Book?
Airline website (directly).
This is the easiest way to book a connecting flight. It’s also the safest way to book a connection. You make a single booking, have a single reservation code and the booking includes several flights. Sometimes they are all with one airline, other times – two or more. Anyway, in this case, you can be 100% sure that you have a proper connecting flight.
Other Option
Flight booking websites.
Few examples: skyscanner.net, expedia.com, momondo.com.
Pay attention to the details. Because some of these sites are only search engines, and sellers are other websites. Apart from that, they often sell both airline-protected connecting flights and self-transfer flights. If it’s a self-transfer, know that it comes with its own risks, and there are things you should take into account. Self-transfer is not the same thing as airline-protected transfer.

5. Pegasus Airlines Connecting Flights: Baggage
With Pegasus Airlines, everything’s very easy.
Baggage rules on connecting flights with Pegasus Airlines are simple.
Even though Pegasus Airlines is not a traditional full-service airline, it will take care of your checked bag through the journey.
In short, Pegasus Airlines takes care of your baggage. Check it in before the first flight. You won’t have to collect and recheck your bag between flights. Unless you have a self-transfer (separately booked flights), or you’re traveling through a country that requires everyone to collect and recheck their baggage.
If you have booked Pegasus Airlines flights separately, you have a self transfer. In this case, you have to collect and recheck you luggage.
Ask the staff if you aren’t sure about the destination of your bag.
5.1 Baggage Transfer: Different Airlines
What happens if there are several airlines?
What if one of your flights is operated by different airline, not Pegasus Airlines? As we already talked, you may experience this, because Pegasus Airlines does share some of its flights with its codeshare partners. In this situation the rules are the same — your baggage is being taken care of by an airline. In most situations you won’t have to worry about it.

5.2 Pegasus Airlines Free Baggage Allowance
Baggage allowance varies — it’s not the same on all flights.
It varies depending on the airline, travel class and destination.
If you don’t know what is your baggage allowance, check your Pegasus Airlines booking confirmation. When you are booking a Pegasus Airlines flight, you can see baggage allowance when you are choosing your flight and ticket type. The cheapest Pegasus Airlines tickets often come without checked baggage allowance.
5.3 Economy Light
This is the cheapest option for long-haul flights.
Economy Light comes without free baggage allowance.
We see this all across the industry. Full-service traditional airlines are offering also tickets without free checked baggage allowance. The wording is also often the same — Economy Light. So, if you see this, most likely it’s without checked baggage (carry on baggage only).
When you see cheap Pegasus Airlines flights, pay attention to this. Because Pegasus Airlines also offers Light tickets. This ticket type is called “Basic”. If you are travelling on Basic ticket, you can bring 1 piece of cabin baggage with you. The next ticket type is “Essentials”. It comes with 20 kg baggage allowance.

6. Connecting Flight Examples
Here are two connecting flight examples with Pegasus Airlines.
6.1 Protected Connecting Flights with Pegasus Airlines (Most Common)
To give you an example, I’ll use the website of Pegasus Airlines.
Let’s assume you want to fly from Berlin to Izmir (Turkey).
You have found flights for October 5, and these are the options:
Despite the fact that Pegasus Airlines is a budget airline, it sells protected connecting flights. They operate exactly as full-service airline connecting flights.
As you can see in the screenshot above, all flights are with a layover in SAW (Sabiha Gokcen International Airport) in Istanbul. But duration and price vary.
When you click on any flight, you can see that Pegasus Airlines offer several ticket types. Just like traditional airlines.
6.2 Self-Transfer Flights with Pegasus Airlines
Now, let’s assume, that your final destination is not Izmir.
You want to fly from Berlin to Izmir, and from Izmir onwards to Istanbul. But before that you want to spend a day or two in Izmir, to explore the city and the nearby Roman ruins.
- You can book a connecting flight to Izmir, like in the example above. For example, you’re taking one of the cheapest options, the first one, which arrives in Izmir at 08:05 am.
- And then you go to kiwi.com, or some other flight booking website, and book a flight from Izmir to Istanbul. Leaving yourself, let’s say, 2 days in Istanbul. You can book this flight directly from Pegasus as Pegasus offers cheap domestic flights.
Until Izmir, it’s an airline-protected connecting flight. If your first flight is delayed or cancelled, the airline will put you on another flight for free. However, the last leg, Izmir – Istanbul flight, includes a self-transfer layover (a stopover). It’s a separate flight. You’ll need to check in for this flight separately. Even if it’s another Pegasus flight. You’ve booked it separately and are travelling on another ticket. Take this into account and leave yourself plenty of time for your layover.
